Consider this.

I am regretfully contemplating ending my 3-year love affair with my highly modified 2004 STi. I absolutely love my car and bought it new with 39 miles butI'm now looking to move to something a little more grown up in my ripe old age of 33.

S/RS-Line cars have always intrigued me and I am fairly certain that a used S4 or RS-6 may be in my future. As for the S4, I am leaning more towards the B6 or B7 V-8 models, fully understanding the limited modification market for these models.

The question may have been asked before, but if you had to choose between a 2004 S4 or a 2003 RS-6 and they were only about 12-14 grand apart in price, which model would you choose? Both aretiptronic (flame on!) and have similar miles.

Here are links to a couple that have grabbed my attention:
2004 S4

2003 RS-6

I would also be open to consider a B5 S4 if the miles were less than 40K (rare, I know). I've already plunked over 10K in mods into my STi, and I'm not sure I want to **** my wife off any more in my next car choice, but as sure as anything, I'm sure the mod bug will bite on the next ride.

Anyway, thanks for the great site. I look forward to contributing and appreciate the feedback.

Those cars look a bit on the low side of pricing. I would watch out for these cars. They may have had body work or have other issues that you won't find out about until it's too late. I saw several cars at local dealers that had had body work and the dealer swore that the car was original. Don't trust anyone and don't buy an Audi without throughly looking it over, driving it and having it inspected. It's not a cheap car to own so take your time and do it right.

Good Luck

They do not look like they are on th elow side of pricing, with that many miles it is a legit price. The S4 is real nice. it looks like the original owner took real nice care of it. Since its a N/A v-8 they really cant beat up the engine to much. Now the RS6 is a twin turbo, the only way you could tell if it in bad shape is if you drove it. Now the RS6 has great power. My friend has one and it is amazing. its big and roomy, professinol, and best of all it fast as hell. With some small modifications you coudl have a very powerfull machine, one that no STI can even keep up with. Now if i had a choice, i would pick a B5 S4, only because of the potential they have, there small and can be very light. I say invest in a low milage B5 S4, there out there you just have to search. And if you decide to buy one with Turbo upgrade already, you dont have to worry about milage or changing the timing belt (at least not on this one), I will post a quick link, i knwo this guy personaly and can vouche for him.

This will smoke the rs6 and any mod you put in it. I think the wife will approve. Dont even tell her its fast. . If you need his info to contact let me know

wow..yeah, id definately be weary of either of those two cars...

Ive never seen a decent b6 under 30k. now i havent looked that much recently..but theyve generally eben going for around 35 when i was last looking and id be shocked if theyve dropped 10 grand. As well as the rs6, a guy i know got one less than a year ago for just over 60... granted it had very very low miles.. but that price on the rs6 seems very low.

Id take teh rs6 hands down.. Much rarer.. will hold its value better...and is faster and get the same luxuries.

RS6! DROP dead SEXY, and oh so much fun! It's a grown up car, for people who haven't grown up.
But there expensive. $40 is BY FAR the LOWEST price I've seen on one. Most of the time there over $50K.

Nothing wrong with the B6 S4, but it's kind of a red headed step child. It was a low production car, and the aftermarket kind of sucks.

Great info. I'll keep you guys posted on the decision. The wifey is actually really cool about any decision I make...the funny part is that on the day I pulled into the driveway with the new STi, she was so pissed because she thought I was going to buy an S4, and couldn't understand why I just spent over 30 grand on "a freakin dodge neon". Seriously, she couldn't give a rats patoot about what I drive, as long as it's not a dodge. ;-)

Well the STi is no neon, my buddy has one, but sometimes it's hard to keep him out of my S4, the other day we were going to his house, about 45 minutes away. He was like, lemme drive your car, lol it was great!
