OK - 40K and 2 years with my WRX (230whp/225wtq w/ lite mods - AWD dyno'd). Love it but it's time to move on.

So, looking for something slightly larger and more refined. My short list is down to a 2002 or newer S6 Avant or 540iT. Local Jag dealer has one of each.

Looking for summary information on common issues with the S6 - can seem to find anything all-inclusive. Any owner feedback would be much appreciated. It's a shame neither is available in a 6spd...

Audi S6 pretty rare car not to many around not like the bimmer I personally don't like BMW's at all out dated styling ugly interior and most of everyone has one everywhere you look you see a BMW the S6 is also going to have AWD very nice feature espically if you live in a place where you get snow

 

Both about 5.7-6 seconds to 60. Bimmer pushes 290 hp and S6 Makes 340. Having a 4.4 liter versus 4.2 and reving lower, produces more torque (325) for the bimmer making it an equal off the line. However the Audi has a much nicer interior (suede roof) better looks and it drives better but dosnt handle as good. As far as mods, you need to get the BMW. You have Dinan, Ac Achnitzer, AA tuning, hartge and tonnns all for BMW and you could mod it as much or even more then you could a WRX. The only mod for the S6 is an engine chip, and if you want to import stuff you can get an intake and exhaust. You can get suspension and brakes for an S6 also. Fully tuned you can get an S6 to about 365 hp. Fully tuned you can get the 540i Auto in the 460's just with dinan. Not to mention with Dinan suspension it handles like a porsche.

Both are great cars. The S6 is perhaps more rare and has AWD (desireable?). The540 can be made into a beast and probably handles a bit better right out of the box. You should test drive each - and really look them over and get whichever one apeals to you the most - can't go wrong. Another consideration might be reliability - from my experience (owning both a BMW and an Audi) - I'd guess BMW is likely to be better...
