2005 S4 Avant valve cover paint / lifter gone.
Good Day,
First time Audi owner with question for an't s4 gurus.
2005 s4 6 speed. 80k miles. Dealer maintained. All records. I am second owner.
I have done following car diagnosis: compression is good, no misfires, no codes ( unless throttle is opened past 50 percent when cold ), has had all consumables replaced. Runs strong with higher end breakup but not bad. No mil.
Has always had ticking noise in sequence with combustion and compression stroke. Not loud. Can only hear with windows down. Slight vibration and elevated noise at cylinder 5 and 6 exhaust side of head.
Opened head and valve cover inside paint is flaked everywhere.
Engine flushed twice. Then run with covers off. Noise present and all oiling appears to be occurring as designed. Valve covers repaired.
My best guess is that exhaust lifter have expired due to clogging and oil starvation.
I have access to Audi Service manual. Can I remove bearing caps, mark chain, lift cam and swap lifters? Any other thoughts or suggestions? As I said, my a first audi so anything is appreciated!
Pk.
