Actually that happened to me once on one of the old school FJ cruisers when I was three years old, someone left the keys on and the transmission on gear, but those thing are indestructible, nothing happen to it, it just made a hole on the wall.

 

the car was off but the key was in, I opened the passenger door and started playing inside the car until I saw that key, everyone was getting ready to go to the farm, so that happen when they were looking for all the stuff inside the house.
