Subs + Amp + Speakers? HELP
hey
so I have an 2002 Audi A4.
The stereo went out and just kept flashing on and off whether the car was on or off or whatever. But then we got that fixed.
I want to put some subs in it. I was thinking about these Kicker's.
I need to know a few things.
1. do I need to buy a new stereo? or does the stock stereo have inputs
2. should I/do I need to replace the stock speakers if I replace the stereo?
3. What amp should I get? I know Boss is a good name for amps. I need to know if I should get a one channel, or 2, or multi or whatever...like can someone tell me what the difference is?
4. is a 16" box even going to fit in my tiny *** car?
5. if its just a matter of subs + amp...could I install it myself? or should I just leave it to the pros?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Is this true with all A4s? You dont have to pull out the stock console in the dash?

1. u dont need a new stereo. i got 2 12's with the factory headunit
2. nope you can leave the same speakers unless you wana upgrade them
3. get a rocksford fosgate amp. best amp i have ever owned. so powerful i can only put it at half power or it'll blow my subs. you need a mono amp for subs. multichannel amps are for running the whole system. mono are specifically for subs
4. it should. get the box dimensions and pop the trunk and start measuring
5. you can do it yourself if you know what your doing otherwise just get it installed by a professional

all i had in my 90 was a 12" JL in a HUGE *** box and a 250 Watt amp. My job doesn't pay well, but it sounded good because the box was so big. but when i get my new system it will hopefully by 2 12" JLs and 1200 watts or more =P
dont take this the wrong way, I use to work at an audi store and have run many compotition stereos
kicker stopped being good or great when they started making thier subs and amps in china, they use to be all hand crafted in the USA im not a big fan of them anymore unless you get your hands on some XPL's or some round solo's, dont buy that square sub it might be loud but the sound quality is crap, go with the comp vr's if you have to have kicker, as for rocksford fosgate, they have not made anything good sine the late 90's since they to starting making thier stuff over seas, the sound quality out of those amps sucks ***** now.. I really hate to say it because i wouldnt personaly buy anything made by JL (only becuase everyone uses them and every show i have ever gone to about 80% of the people used JL) go with a jl system best sound quality for the money if your just going to keep your stock head unit, unless you want something really nice and go with a Mmats sub and a macantosh amp, now that stuff is mint

Sounds good. I'll look into it, I really liked my memphis amp so i may use them again. I loved JL just becuase it was so bubbly though. But, it was much better than having lets say... Sony.. poor kid i go to school with bought 2 Sony Xplods... i wanted to cry for him.
I like Memphis some of there amps are really good, the best way to really make a system is to buy a pair of speakers or one speaker then buy an amp that will work with it, but you can always do it the other way around.. its just if you buy a sq speaker and use a mono block crazy amp your not going to get the best sound out of your speakers, just make sure things match up and everything will sound sweet..
