Default thinking of buying a used TT - needhelp with leak

Hi, im thinking of buying a TT roadster, ~55K miles and ran a carfax and shows it sold at an auction back in 03. Should i be worried about taht?

Also, what else should i be aware of? Does anyone here know if its possible to get service records from AUDI on this, like call any dealer?

Thanks in advance for your help....

First off, unless its a lemon or something, you are going to like the car, they are very nice. Not to be rude, but you should look through this forum, just abou tonce a week someone asks the line of, Im buying a tt, what should i look out for, etc. At 60k, plan on replacing your timing belt, tensioner, timing belt, etc. You do not want to wait for it to go, and they go early on these cars. Carfax should show maintenance as well if you scroll down to the bottom of the report. Look on the report, see where it was primarily or most recently serviced ask for a copy of the service history. The seller of the vehicle should have these records as well. Auction isnt necceasrilly bad, it could simply be say some ford dealer took it in on trade and they just wanted it off thier lot. If yo uare serious about he vehicle, it requires a once over anyways before you purchase it my a mechanic to look for any problems. Pay special attention to the windows, the gauge cluster, check the turbo, etc. it would be helpful from this end if you told us the exact yearother details you had. Good luck!

sorry, i did read through the forum and knew of the timing belt replacement at 60K. aside from that I have not read of any glaring issues with these cars.

its a 2001 TT Roadster Quattro 55K miles. thats all i know right now about it. Gonig to go look at it later today and ask for serivce records etc. Just was wondering if audi also had records just to have an independent party supply them.

as for carfax, it didnt list any service information. just registration data and title information. thanks for your help.

The only other major issue is problems with the instrument cluster failing. It is a somewhat high rate. Some of which can be fixed by BBA-Reman for $250.. other more serious problems require a new cluster at a cost of nearly $1000. Some people have been able to get AoA to share in a part of the warranty.

Selling at auction isn't a bad thing - there are all kinds of reasons for auction sales. Just means someone wants the fastest amount of cash to be gotten off the vehicle. Here, I run an impound yard and sell cars every week - it's how I got my TT

Most likely it was repossessed by the lienholder and sold. Doesn't reflect poorly on the car, though.

also when a dealer has a car for about a month and cant sell it they take it to an auction. Its just sometimes certian cars dont sell well incertian areas.

so i checked out the car, and yes it needs a timing belt change as it has not been done.
the cluster looks good, car is very clean and drives great.

only issue i saw visually, without putting it on a lift, was that it had a very small pool of oil, under it near the rear wheels. Actually right inbetween teh rear wheels. Again its an 01 quattro roadster..

i was wondering if anyone know what this might be and roughly how big of a deal is it? I dont want to take it to a mechanic if this is a major problem in itself. Thanks again.

are you sure the oil is from this car and not one park there before? Last time i checked the car didnt have oil beyond the firewall. Are you sure it isnt something or from something else?

well, i dont know if its oil..it looked like an oily substance, and he parks the car there 100% of the time. so the pool is from that car, i also looked underneath at least as much as i could. in between the two wheels, there is a white 2.5" diameter (i think) disk. to the left of that and a little towards the front there is a silver (metal) box. the box also had a shine to it from oil on it. so it was coming from that area, i just dont know whats in that area.
