Trailer Hitch for Audi V8
The first application (and maybe the only one) is that I am going to be renting a u-haul (4x8) enclosed trailer to go from NJ to CA. U-Haul wants $344 + for a hitch and since I'm flying in, picking up the car, and leaving in a matter of a couple of days I'm nervous that I'll show up and they'll go, "Oops we can't do that" even though I have spoken to them at length. I'd feel a lot better if I had a hitch shipped and I could install it when I got to NJ. Thanks.
You bought a car on ebay! You bought a car on ebay! You bought a car on ebay!
Oooops... sorry. That started to sound like Sandra Bullock! OK, anyway...
Can't you go to your local U-Haul dealer to investigate the hitch and see it ahead of time?

Well, when I talked to u-haul a couple of days ago the quote I got was $344 for the hitch which seemed a little high but acceptable. When I called to make the appointment the price went to $474 so I don't have much faith in what I'd actually end up with when I got done. I'd much rather find a good hitch and install it myself.
Yeah... but I'd still go there and try to see who makes it/them. Ask the rep to show you the hitch and how it works. Give him some story that you want to be sure your car can handle the stress. Then ask questions about who makes the hitch - be innocent and act naive. Then walk away with the info - hopefully.
The Audi V8 needs a very special hitch, due to the very low ride height, and the extended rear diffuser, which is an integrated part of the bumper. $344 is a good price for a hitch for a V8 - but make sure IT FITS! Most hitches - even those which are "supposed to fit the V8" require that a small portion of the black lowest part of the bumper has a notch cut into it...
