2001.5 A4 1.8T Quattro, 5-spd vs. Unk. BMW Z3 roadster.

Last night I was bored, so I called up my friend and we went cruising around. At about 9:30 (he had to be in at 10) we were heading up I-280 North. No real traffic, just a couple of cars here and there. CHP enforcement on there is pretty light, but I was cruising at 70mph anyway.

I'm in the 2nd left lane, minding my own business when a Z3 creeps up next to me. I figured he would probably beat me, but I downshifted to 4th, and took off. He kept back, but flashed his brights on me, so I pulled up next to him and downshifted to 3rd @ 70mph. He flashed his brights again and took off. He was pulling away till I hit 80mph and shifted up to 4th, at which point I was pulling on him again. I got up 2 car lengths from him and he dropped back. I dropped back too, lined up next to him, and he takes off again. This time we raced to 100mph, with me pulling on him from the moment I got into 4th gear. We caught up to some traffic, so I didn't want to race anymore, and neither did he. He signalled to exit and took off.

I really didn't think I would be able to hang with him, but I figure maybe he was driving an auto, and possibly the low end engine.

What do you guys think? You guys ever get any kills you didn't expect?

 

who cares if he had a manual and a low end motor...the fact that bought that "high end sports car" with a family sedan is still friggen sweet!

i raced some bmw 3 series, didn't have any badges so i couldnt see what engine it was, it was manual, and had bodykit, was definately older than 99, mabye 96, anyways it looked and sounded like it had exhaust, i pulled up to him at a red light after seeing him drive a bit fast, i wasnt expecting to win but i challenged him with some looks anyways, turns out i killed him by a couple car length and before 90 he backed off. i have 12v 2.8. really not expecting to beat him

 

it didnt have anything bigger than the 2.5l v6 then, i promise you.
