So my buddy wants to race me. I've go the '98 A4 quattro, all stock since I just recently purchased it. He is all about is mustang (convertible), so I want to line up with him and I would love to put him in his place. What do you all think would be the result? Also, does anyone have a good link to a specs website? I'm still new at having a car that I can actually push hard and not have it fall apart, any hints for racing?? I gotta learn to drive my Audi like it should be driven...fast!

the track is the best place for speed that's the best place to learn ( not the streets )

look up your localtrack, you might say that a barren stretch of road/parking lot or highway is good, but whathappens if something happens, you don't have saftey personel like you do at the track

oh yeah and by the way, what are the mods to the 5.0 and how good of a driver is he?

imho he would, he is putting out about 225 hp and roughly same torque you are probably only putting out about 200 and maybe 200, your main advantage is awd, but if he is a better driver, which by the way i assume he is, he knows how to run his stang

Yeah, I will have to find a track... I was just wondering if I had much of a chance. He does not have any mods (at least nothing major at all), and he is a pretty decent driver, though I would not consider him great by any means. I think with the AWD I may stand a chance because he peels out a lot when trying to start fast. Anyways, thanks for the thoughts.

is your audi a 5spd? if so you might be able to take him. The 5.0's run like 15.2 stock

Yeah, we both have 5spds. He just has a big head about his car being fast, so I would like to give him a run for his money.

the convertables is heavy so you caan beat him ... but is it worth it? you will have to launch your car (drop the clutch at 5k)

I think it is going to come down to the driver.

I really don't think you stand much of a chance, stock 2.8s are slow. A5.0 has about 225 hp and upwards of 300ft/lbs torque.
compared to your 190 hp and 220 ft/lbs there really isn't an issue. And as far as weight go your audi is no feather. Yea he's a confertable sports car, but your an all wheel drive luxary car.
IMO mustang hands down.
