Default Cheap way to drop?

Any ideas on a cheap, yet safe, way to drop my 99 A4 1.8T? Obviously I can get springs cheap, but is it safe to do without replacing anything else? I'm just trying to get rid of some of the rediculous fender gap, maybe drop 1.5 to 2 inches. Thanks in advance, my fellow B5ers!

Installing only springs won't make anything unsafe if that's what you're asking. Just look into getting some new shocks like Bilstein sport, that are meant to be combined with lowering springs. Otherwise, sooner or later the stock shocks will quickly get worn out and you'll hate how rough the ride is.

I recommend the sport ones. The race ones will be too stiff to be comfortable as a DD.
