I have H&R race springs on my 2.8. It's a great drop but you definitely have to look out for speed bumps and raised manhole covers. A raised manhole cover cost me two new catalytic converters. Trust me....its low.

Look for some progressive rate springs. They are soft over small stuff, but load up for better handling and wheel control. I would check out Vogtland also. They are what I have on my A3. Best springs I've ever tried.

Full disclosure: I have bought both I have owned Bilstein Sport kits on my old Jetta, H&R Coilovers, H&R and Eibach racing springs for my BMW autocross car (settled on the H&Rs) but nobody in their right mind would run fixed-rate racing springs on the street. For starters they are 2.5" diameter - or 60MM, and require new spring seats top & bottom for all 4 wheels, as well as a full understanding of spring lengths, rates & all that complex suspension engineering.

i have H&R "race" springs with blstn sport shocks. it lowrd my car nicely. the car is firm but not too stiff. also the shock body of my blstn's have an adjustable ring on the bottom that adjust the height on the spring seat. so eventgh the springs are not height adjustable the shock bodies make it so.

thr installed on a 98 a4 qttr 5spd on 18's

ps
u need sport shocks or a shock that says that it could handle sport/lowering springs.
