Yes!

Note that Carista is NOT like all the other OBD2 apps. None of them can read VAG-specific codes from all VAG modules; but Carista can (as long as the car is compatible, i.e. uses the CAN protocol).

Do you have an ELM327 and a compatible car? Just give it a try and you'll see for yourself. If you have any VAG codes, the app will show you which modules have codes for free. It won't show you what they actually are or let you reset them until you buy our Pro Package (currently $19.99), but you'll at least be able to see that the app can find these codes that OBD2 apps don't.

 

And what of the needed hex interface?

 

All you need for Carista is a Bluetooth ELM327 device (those are cheap - like $10). The restriction is that it only works with CAN-based cars (for a specific list, see Supported Vehicles | Carista OBD2 - Vehicle Diagnostics and Customization ). If you're asking about older cars, then no, there's no interface that we support as of now that can work on older VAG cars.
