CA WINDOW TINT
Hello, im going to get my windows tinted here pretty soon. However I understand that CA has some pretty strict tint laws. I was wondering if anybody had any pictures of what the max available (by CA law) window tint would look like. Also if I later decide to move out of CA and have a diff % of tint, is it expensive/ bad on the windows to have the previous tint removed?
Thanks!
Thanks!
by law - any tint on the front windows is illegal...

but it really depends on the officer...and how dark they are - bec some cars come
w/ some tint from the factory.
.clipse just got a ticket (i think theyre usually just a fix-it ticket)[*][*][*][*][*]

Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle? The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:[*]The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.[*]If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides. The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions. However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

legally.. no.
any tint there can technically get u a ticket.
but if u really want to tint it - usually something where u can see the inside (70%)
is safe - the darker u go the more chance u get of being picked on..
but ive seen cars all day long w/ 20% & not getting hassled....
CA state law requires a registered front plate - but i have a euro plate -
i just take that chance - as do alot of other people - and so far so good (knock on wood)
more often than not - its the other stuff that gets the PD's attention like speeding,
racing, blasting ur music, etc. etc. the tint then just becomes an additional infracton to add on.

First, the usual disclaimer. THIS DOES NOT CONSTITUTE LEGAL ADVICE OR A LEGAL OPINION BY ME. This is only a primer for an intelligent discussion of the cited section of the California Vehicle Code.

The above is a link to California Motor Vehicle Code Section 26708. Review subsection (d) (bottom quarter of the page). "Colorless" tints on the front side windows that comply with Section 26708(d) ARE legal. The requirements are:
1. Tint material blocks light transmission by < 12%;
2. The side window with tint material applied meets all requirements of Fed. Mot. Veh. Safety Standard No. 205. One of these requirements is that the side window with tint material applied blocks light transmission by < 30%;
3. Tint material designed to block UVA rays;
4. Possession of certificate from tint manufacturer or installercertifying #1 through #3; and
5. No tears or bubbles.
