Default Infineon Wednesday Night Drags 3-8-06

Wednesday, March 8 will be the first of their “Wednesday Night Drags” for the season. Assuming it’s not raining, I was going to try and get some Audi guys to come out there for a G2G/ ¼ mile fun. So far it’s me in my B5 with just a few mods, my friend with a Mustang Mach 1, and my buddy with his Rousch Stage 2 Mustang. Hoping to get some more guys coming.

POPULAR PROGRAM GIVES PEOPLE SAFE, LEGAL, CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH TO RACE THEIR CARS, AWAY FROM CITY STREETS

WHAT: The popular "Wednesday Night Drags" program will kick off its 18th consecutive year at Infineon Raceway on March 1st. The raceway will open its gates most every Wednesday night from March 1st-Nov. 8th for fans who would like to race down it world-famous quarter-mile drag strip.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the program is to give people, from teen-agers to working professionals, a safe, legal and controlled environment in which to race their vehicles, as opposed to using city streets or back-county roads.

WHEN: Most Wednesday nights through Nov. 8th. Gates open at 3:30 p.m., racing spans from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. Wednesday Night Drags will NOT be run on the following dates: May 10th, May 17th, June 21st, July 26th, August 23rd, and October 18th.

WHERE: Infineon Raceway, Highways 37 and 121, Sonoma, Calif., 95476.

WHO: Anyone with a driver's license can compete, providing their vehicle or motorcycle passes a simple technical inspection. All vehicles must have mufflers. To see the rules and regulations for Wednesday Night Drags, please click here. The event attracts a varied crowd, including teen-agers, mothers, working professionals and grandparents racing everything from Corvettes to Mini-Vans. Three-hundred cars are allowed to compete each Wednesday night. The weekly event attracts an average of 900-1,200 people (competitors and spectators).

TOP THE COPS: An added bonus for high school students is the "Top the Cops" program. This runs in conjunction with the Wednesday Night Drags and offers high school students the chance to race against local law enforcement officers, who will be driving their squad cars. The program is designed to help take illegal racing off the streets and bring it to a safe, legal and controlled environment.

COST: $20 competitors, $15 for students with their high school identification card, $10 spectators. For more information, call 800-870-RACE.

That sounds like a really great program, good to hear that stuff like that is out there. God knows, there are way too many people doing that on the street, just asking to end their own or someone else's life.

If I was there now, I'd be down for that. Looks like a good time!
