Angry need to borrow a VAG-COM for my B5 A4

My car is f*cking with me again. I've had a couple of issues I've been trying to ignore for about a month now, but I just recently bumped into a mechanical issue I can't overlook anymore. 4 or 5 times I've started my car in about as many days, it's wanted to die on me when I put it in gear, but then it's fine after it warms up. It feels like it's choking, drops to about 500 rpms, the gas pedal goes limp, then it recovers and drives like nothing was wrong in the first place. Other than that, I need to trouble shoot some stupid electrical crap.

Who wants to help me out? I live in Covina but I'm willing to travel to you. If you need pizza I can do that. Beer? I can do that too. I'm flexible. Whatever you need (within reason), I'll work with you. Help me out.

If the forums crap out on us again, hit me up at tookeet@gmail.com

I have kind of the same issues but only if I put it in drive right after I start up the car. I have a vagcom cable but unfortunately I'm in NorCal. In any case, please update the thread on your findings. good luck!

If your b5 is higher mileage like mine then you may need to replace the coolant temp. sensor. that fixed my problem and mine was very similiar to yours. I tried cleaning out the entire fuel/injection system with additives and seafoam and all kinds of **** but nothing worked until i had it replaced. it was only 75 bucks to have it done at the local german shop. as for a vag-com, just go rent one from autozone. you have to front $120 in case you break it but if you return it they give you the whole deposit right back. so its basically a free vag-com whenever you need it, unless you break the thing. then your screwed.

I've borrowed tools from Autozone before but I didn't know they had VAG-COM cables. I'm definitely going to look into that. I'm thinking more and more that this has to be a sensor that's going bad but isn't there yet. This issue isn't at all consistent.

xqwizit: I'll definitely post any results or conclusions. Hopefully this is something minor. :/

Thanks man. I'm going to look into the autozone VAG-COM first since there's one right down the street from my house, but if that falls through, I'll shoot you an email. I may still have your number laying around, too.

The only thing is, I might need to spend a decent amount of time with it. There's some minor electrical crap going wrong in my car now too, so I'm going to try to do this on my own first. I think some of these issues came from the knock-off VAG-COM I bought on ebay. That thing never worked and I noticed a couple of issues immediately after trying to scan my car with it. You get what you pay for, and I got screwed.

If I can't trouble shoot this on my own, I'll give you guys a call. I'm pretty confident in my mechanical abilities and the amount of info available online and in my bently manual, but if I get myself into a jam we'll be in touch. Thanks for the heads up.
