Well, after a great week getting together with everyone from the Socal group i come back to find an overwhelming amount of money that must be spent to repair my car. Of course i say this in the sense that my car is only worth about 7 grand. My rack and pinnion is shot. $1400 installed. And my front Cv's are dwindling, the left boot has already come open and flung grease everywhere and im not sure how long i had been driving like this still dont know if the joint itself is damaged. The right side im told is ready to break open. I also had to repair my coolant sensor in order to get my car to stop idling incorrectly. All of this on top of $320 just to find the problems. All together i have been dedicated to spend 2200 dollars, not including fixing the right side CV because i just cant afford it. This pretty much accounts for a third of what the car is actually worth and i hate to say this but i must get rid of it in the coming months because i do not want to chance any more repairs like these. i have only owned the car for a year and a few months And i will not have any money leftover to go in on a new car. IM SCREWED. I will simply have to borrow 100% on whatever my next car will be, perhaps a GLI or a GTI. I just cant worry about 700 800 or 1000 dollar visits to the mechanic any more.

Ya im hoping to for sure, i just need something with a warranty. It serously is so gay stepping down to a VW even though its the same family and i have always loved them its still just strange.

 

think we can just fix it?

rack and pinion....axles....doesn't soundimpossible....

 

i am down to fix it. lets go. that is all pretty basic stuff, axle boots super easy, rack will be alittle work but not bad lets fix it


do not step down to the vw it can be fixed with just alittle elbow grease

 

Wow! i really appreciate it guys and i know you guys would honestly help but its only about 30% my decesion. Plus im pretty sure most of the work has already started, Plus alignment and such...

 

ya thats pretty basic stuff man.. think it through..
at ur cars mileage / age - those things were bound to go.. its just regular maintenance.
i hope u reconsider... w/ enough heads - we can put ur car back in working condition !

alot of the cost was from labor & just diagnosing the problems...
$320? thats alot for telling u u need a new rack & pinion etc.

whatever u decide - do whats best for u in the long run...
just know uve got some heads here willing to help you out.

 

I just walked out of my mechanic's garage feeling $1300 lighter today too..

Clutch + mirror assembly. I know I know, it was a 100% ripoff, but my dad was footing this bill b/c it was the clutch. I just saw an OEM clutch assembly being sold for 280 from a vendor too.. looked at the bill today and mentally /facepalm'd myself.

 

I really do appreciate you guys! Im going to suffer through this time around but if something crops up again i will pass it by all of you and that might just save me from actually having to get rid of it. Like i said i will be keeping it for the next few months but if something were to go wrong and i had no other options i would have to sell. I think with you guys around i may just have that other option.
