winter tires
I live in the San Fran Bay area. I travel to Tahoe every 4-6 weeks. During the winter up there, we areoften faced with driving insignificant snow and ice. I recently bought my '08 A3 3.2 Quattro with OEM Continental summer tires. Not long ago,I put on some Nitto Neo Genall season tires (mud & snow) hoping thatthey would address my occasional winter driving needs. They were highly rated by Consumer Reports BUT I've beenvery disappointed with snow traction on those tires and am now looking for another good winter tire (or all season tire). The majority of my driving is city driving in San Francisco (no snow or ice).I only need the snow traction when I head up to Tahoe. I would appreciate hearing from any other Norcal Audi owners who have a good reliable winter tire solution that would do ok on dry roads in SF but arevery goodon snow and ice. Suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!
If it's a consolation, I'm in as bad a boat. I've transferred to a unit in Nevada, which means I get to do Donner Pass from time to time (im in San Jose).... in an S-4 with low profile tyres on 18"ers.
I'm told I need to buy entire wheels (not just tyres) for this job, meaning 17" rims and a good tyre. Apparently chains don't like low-profile wheels. Any suggestions on a good-looking set of rims which would work on a dolphin grey B6 convertible?

I live in the Bayarea also and in the winter, I usually go up to tahoe 2-3 times a month. I been using All-Season Yokohoma AVID m&s on both of my Honda awdand Audi awd and I'm pretty happy with it. One time I was up there with Bridgestone S03 in the snow, thats was some driving experienced. But ofcourse when come to ice, doesn't really matter what tires you have. It not gonna getmuch traction unless you have stud tire or chain on. Another solution would be having 2 sets of wheels. One for summer one for winter.
