need to replace 19" with 17" - advice needed!
I have an A4 Black ed with 19" rims on it.
I want to store the 19"s and buy some sensible 17"/18" but I don't know what to look for.
the stock ones take 255/35R19
What else can I use?
I've found some 235/45R17 which would do the job - would the size difference (I've calculated a ride change of -8.9mm with the new wheels) be ok?
I've never changed wheels before so this is all new to me!!

I ran your 255/35 R19s through my handy-dandy tire size calculator and came up with a circumference of 81.77"; the closest I could get to that in a tire with a 235 section width mounted on either a 17" or 18" wheel was a 235/50 R17 which has a circumference of 82.47". Here in the States there are plenty of tires in that size available, and at prices which range from a relatively modest $115 per tire to a rather painful $298 per tire.

Ouch! Sounds like you can buy a complete set of 235/50 R17 tires and 17x7.5 or 17x8.0 wheels for less than a single set of 255/35 R19 tires.

They're the stock s-line wheels that I would want to get, the 17s seem tricky to match to the car.

To be quite honest, I don't know what the "J" stands for, however, most if not all wheels I've looked at, regardless of size, has a "J" imprinted in the wheel size. Said another way, the 18x8J S-Line wheels will fit your car perfectly.
