Got my DIY on with the center console.
Pulled out all the buttons and re-wired them into the glovebox. Hacked bits off the plastic framing so that a double din unit would fit; it now fits perfectly. Removed the ash tray and lighter and converted space to hold my iphone. Made a custom front plate out of fiberglass using the clips from the old one to hold it in place. Put a leather boot and a momo auto shifter to tidy up the ugly automatic look.
