Hello!

I just got an 08 A3 2.0T and it's a great machine, but I noticed that the engine looks different from the photos in the manual and the ones online. It has "TFSI" written on it rather than "2.0 FSI" and "Turbo", and the cover is smaller.

More importantly, the oil dipstick is on the left side of the engine rather than in the front, and an upside down oil filter sits in front left corner.

The car was manufactured in 4/08 according to the information printed in the doorway.

Did I get an 07 engine? Has anybody seen this?

By the way, it is a 6 speed manual...I wonder if that has something to do with this?

 

Found the answer...this is the 2008.5 TFSI engine with the timing chain instead of the belt, and a few other changes including a new oil filter type and placement.

Apparently being used on the 2009 A4 with higher HP and torque. The question is, do the 2008 cars have the increased power?

i too have the 2008.5 TSI (CCTA; timing chain) engine. engine cover is labeled TFSI, but that is not correct.

APR dynoed the TSI and got 212chp on 93 octane, so yes, max hp is slightly higher.
according to the charts, our max hp comes earlier than the previous FSI.
