Good News For 2.8 B5 Owners
For Those 2.8L B5 Owners with Aftermarket Filters (cone) ie.. K&N 57i Series, I have worked with Matt at BlinktekDesign and created a Heat shield for our cars. Final Pricing is still TBA, but so far its going to be a kit of sorts. We used some custom piping to move the filter further away from the engine, then we place the heatshield in between the engine and filter. The Cool side is about 15-30 degrees cooler, and should boost your fuel economy/performance slightly a bit more. Ill update you as i speak with Matt later.
I cant take the credit for the shield as Matt (owner of BlinkTekDesgin) has designed it, I merely supplied the car and made a few suggestions here and there. but I tell you its really nice. Matt is a really cool guy, great person to talk with, and fun to work with as well.
I currently dont have pics, but i will upload them soon. The website to go to
to order one of these is www.blinktekdesign.com He also makes other shields
as well, such as for the 1.8T etc.. He will also update the website soon so
that there are more pics and options on it.

Well, I installed the shield last weekend and testing it right now. The process will take about 1-2 weeks to gather the data etc..
So far though, it is working out well, no pics yet (i am busy and dont usually get free time until the weekends). Fuel efficiency has raised slightly, the difference in temperature is noticable, almost no heat on the filter side of the shield. Will take temps this weekend probably.
Again, BlinkTekDesign will be marketing these very soon.
Again even the 1.8T guys can get one of his shields for your vehicle.

not to pick a fight or anything, but if you are going to claim any tangeble gains whatsoever, be it gains such as increased gas milege, more power, lower temps, you need to provide reproducable data to prove it. back to back dyno sheets, temp data, MPG data or whatever. or im going to assume this is like any other ebay intake that claims +20hp instant! woo!! but delivers nothing. sorry to be so skeptical but everyone and their mother claims their product has such benefits when they actualy do nothing.
And i understand where your coming from, as i said, this week right now i am testing any sort of gain in fuel efficiency/performance, and i have entered economy mode (shifting at lower rpms, coasting, going the speed limit etc..) . Before the shield was installed, i had a 57i K&N series intake kit (basically putting a bigger filter in front of the MAF sensor). And because of where it was placed, it was directly above the exhaust manifold, and it got very hot) so i was thinking , hypothetically, separate the filter/intake from the heat and economy/performance should increase. So i went to Matt at BlinkTekDesign, and created a custom shield for it. Now, Im not expecting eyepopping gains in HP/TQ, Definitely not instant 20HP, which i do not believe in. And as far as Fuel economy is concerned, i will post my AVG MPG when i refill the tank next week. I will attempt to take temp difference on both sides of shield this weekend.
interesting. i have a Q. how much longer is the "custom piping" u used to get the filter away from the engine. (where does the filter end up) the reason i ask is because i live on the olympic peninsula in washington (where it rains alot) and as it is; it worries me that im gonna get water sucked up through the filter...
