Default DIY intake -- loud squeeling noise?

so I did the DIY intake found here: http://www.europeanspeed.com/stage2.htm

it's not the one where you cut up the crown, just reversable stuff for the most part. But now my car is making this obnoxious squeeling noise whenever the rpm's go above 2.5k, it mean it is horrible, sounds like a friggin fire alarm goin off. any help as to what may be causing this?

Hi welcome to the forum. Lots of good information and help available here.

Not sure what the noise is, but I know what the fix is... Undo what you have done and put it back the way it was before. The audi airbox is pretty well optimized and the OEM filter is a high airflow paper filter of exeellent design.

How can they recommend shortening that intake trumpet?! That's there to keep low end torque surely.

Has anybody ever seen gains from doing that airbox mod?

I removed my airbox, replaced it with a MAF adapter and filter, shoved the AIT (at least thats what it appears to be) sensor in the factory induction thing.

You don't say what car or engine you are running, but the increase from an air intake mod, esp on the 1.8T is approximately 0.1 HP

me...I have a 2.8

I didn't do it for a gain. I just needed to rice it out for the sound. It did give a minimal gain in throttle response.

i bought the 40 dollar ebay intake with the k&n, and i felt gains. I would only do it for the 2.8 though, becasue with the 1.8 your filter will get heatsoaked really quick as the turbo is right next to it. Keep the stock airbox if you have the 1.8

alright, it's a '00 1.8t that i tried this on. I put everything back the way it was, except i couldn't w/ the maf horn that i cut. and it's still making that horrible noise.

it seems odd however, b/c right after i did it, i drove around the block and it was fine, then all of the sudden it just started making this siren-like noise whenever the rpm's went over 2k.

i am very confused.
