I was looking at a FAQ and noticed that the early 98 models did not come in turbo, is that true? Thanks.

 

all audi's have a non turbo version... 1.8t and 2.8... 2.0t and 3.0 s4, a4, a6, s6, rs6... blah, blah...

 

No, that is not true... you can get a 1.8 litre turbo from 97+. In 1996 (in North America) the A4 was only offered with a a 12 valve 2.8 litre V6. 1997 made the 1.8T available with 150 hp... while the 96 and 97 2.8L had 172 hp I beleive... in 1998 the 2.8 V6 was upped to a 30 valve unit, and hp increased to like 190... in 2001 the 1.8T was upped to 170 hp.
A chipped (see: www.goapr.com) 1.8T will have about 200 hp.
