is there a big difference in performance in the 6 speed and the 5 speed auto? if so how much. i have found a good priced auto with low miles...

 

i (personally) would spend a lil more money and find a 6 speed. but i mean if its a good price go for it. but id get a 6 speed no matter what

 

yea, if you're looking for a performance type vehicle, spend the extra to get it in a manual. Chances are if you get a auto, you'll regret it.

 

Are you talking b7, b6 or b5 (not that it makes too much difference...I'm just curious).

As far as performance, there is very little difference. 0-60 times will be within a 1-2 tenths of a second with the manual being a the quicker of the two. But that is all about driver skill on the manual side. So it really comes down to preference and what type of driving you are going to be doing. If you are sitting in traffic most of the time, or live in S.F. a manual might be reallly frustrating. On the other hand if it is all open road and twisties...then you might want the manual.

Personally, I have never owned anything but a manual. I just like having more involvement and interaction with the car.

 

The only auto that's worth a damn is the DSG. Get the 6 speed.
