Default Oil warning on start up

Wondered if anyone could help?

Every morning on starting my 1.6s Audi A3 (2000) or starting after resting for a while (e.g. all day at work) the oil warning light flashes and beeps then goes off after travelling half a mile or so. If I start the car again not long after driving to work, say, then it doesn't happen again on start-up. Engine sounds OK, and local garage has suggested maybe a flush out and oil change. Would welcome any input, maybe somebody has had the same problem?

Thanks in advance

Check the voil level in the morning before start up because after it sits fora while all the oil has time to get down into the pan and it might be low causing the light to come on for a minute until the oil can work its way back to the top

you mean it says "oil"? Time for an oil change or reset the timer.
