Default 100 '92 starter replacement

Hello,

Does anybody know how to remove a starter from AUDI 100 CS 1992 (North American edition)? I got both mounting bolts out and was able to push the starter out of the fly-wheel, but cannot figure out the way to get it out of this tight compartment. Do I have to take the alternator out of the way first and drag it through the frontal opening? Or should I try to disconnect the passenger side catalitic converter pipe from the manifold and try to get it through the back (not sure if it gives enough room and afraid that the bolt on the maniford is going to break)?

Thank you for the info.

Not quite sure on your particular car. Especially considering im not sure what engine is in the vehicle. But on most all of the v6's you need to remove the alternator to remove the starter. Go the alternator route. Itll be much easier to remove than the heat frozen exhaust bolts.

Yep. I was able to move the alternator out of the way enough to pull the starter out. Serpentine belt looked like it needed replacement, so I got both jobs done while I was there. Thank you for reply.
