When I got home, last night, My 2004 AR 4.2 said I had 35 miles left in the tank. This morning when I started it, it said 5 miles left, and after traveling 3 miles it said zero. 5 miles later, I filled it up with 17.7 gallons. Does anyone know how the miles til empty process works on an AR or what happened to the 30 miles when the AR was sitting in my garage, untouched by anyone ? I get 14 mpg, is this about what everyone else gets in suburban driving ?

does the fuel guage work just fine?
Also the computer factors in the last few seconds of driving to calculate miles left. So if you were coasting the car or going easy, it may have thought you had 30 miles. But if you pull out and floor it, obviously fuel consumption will increase.

Well yeah they leave a little extra gas below "0 miles", just in case.

The fuel guage works fine. I'm an easy driver, it just seems that the mile to empty program wasn't well thought out. I can only compare it to BMW's that I've had, where the miles to empty was alway right on. Does any of the numeric displays that you can bring up with the heater buttons show the amount of fuel remaining in the tank ?
