I am in the process of selling my IS, and am looking at getting an S4. There are very few around, so I was looking for some car search tips. I'm located near Detroit, and there are only a handful of S4's when I search on autotrader.com within 300 miles. I'm looking for nogaro blue, brilliant red, or black

You'll probably have to travel, maybe chicago area. In Dec-Jan I was shopping for a 2001- 02 S4 Avant which is even harder to come by. It took about 6weeks until I found the right one. I live in LA and actually flew to Seattle and drove the car back. It was well worth the wait and travel, I got a mint condition silver 2001 S4 avant w/ 23K miles for $27,000 (someone traded it in at a lexus dealer for an SUV). I'd expand your search, Be patient.

 

You're going about it the right way.
And like coletrain said, be patient. You're searching for a very special car - it will take time.

 

You might want to also check MSN.com and click on autos as well as craigslist.org I've been searching for one as well. I'm in Cali and I'm still having trouble finding the right one. Like ImolaS4 said it will take time, dont rush into anything and definately dont settle....just some words of advice

 

BTW why are you getting rid of your IS? Just curious because for a while I was looking into getting one of those, then I realized it wasn't what I wanted as far as out of the box performance
