QUESTIONS... New to Audi cars
I just bought an '01 A6 2.7t quattro w/ a 6spd tranny with 56,800 miles on it for 14,750 with all the goodies.
My questions are as follows...well, the big question everybody seems to ask when shouldI considerreplacing the timing belt? Also, which would be the best motor oil to use, right now the person I bought it off of used a synthetic...don't know which weight? Do these cars have any history of common problems?
I am a very mecanical person so I don't mind performing my own maintenance. Should I replace spark plugs, fuel filter, etc...Is there anything else that I should be weiry about? Again new to German cars.
Looking for some tips on how to keep the car running strong for a long time. Also any quick any easy mods to increase performance.

I would change timing belt at 90,000 miles, however with the age of vehicle it may be time due to age alone. I always used Mobil One synthetic in a 5-30. It isn't going to be that critical as all the synthetics are very good now. The search function will keep you reading for days and give you access to all your questions. Welcome aboard. You will come to love your Audi. You will also want to check out audiworld.com for info. Check out the a6-c5 forum.
As far as spark plugs, I would use NGK. The motor oils are all pretty good, but I prefer to use Amsoil Euro Synthetic 5W-40. Audi says to change your timing belt, water pump, tensioner, etc... at 90,000, but I believe that is pushing it to the limit. I would change prior to 90K.
Thanks for the tips. As far as the timing belt what would b the $$ damage on that...and what else should I replace when I get that done? I am shopping around for warranties would that be covered or is it considered normal wear and tear?
The timing belt on our cars unfortunately is a very involved process. While in there, change out your water pump, t-stat, and accessory belts. I doubt that a warranty would cover timing belt removal....plus those warranties seem to be a waste of money.
An independant shop might charge anywhere between $1250.00 - 2500 for timing belt replacement but if youare a DIY'er, there are several write-ups on doingthat job hereand onwww.audiworld.com.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info. i have another thread going here and didnt get an answer yet...maybe you can help me. everytime i put on my rear defroster my fm stock radio gets horrible static interference. 01 audi a6 2.7 t someone said to pull the rado and check out the wires behind there. i do have a 6 disc in the trunk so evrything is Bose stock . Thanks madridlover
I'm not sure about that one. Are your windows tinted? I've heard that that can cause reception problems in Audi's but only on the AM band. Mine is tinted and I have no reception problems at all. Sorry I can't be of more help...maybe auditech79 can help on this one.
Auditech79, you out there?!?!?
