Can anyone tell me where the air bag control module is located and how to remove it for my 2000 A6 4.2?

 

I will if you tell the reason why?

 

if you have a problem with the SRS and you dont like it like me then remove the bulb from the dash ( if its on the system is disarmed ) and many cars have accidents where the airbags dont deploy which makes the unsafe or obsolete

 

The reason is the shop tells me I need a new Air Bag Control module. I ordered a used one and now I plan on installing it myself and taking it to the shop to have it programmed.

 

Its under the center console, towards the front on an A6. If you take out the ash tray you should be able to see half of it. You have to pull the radio, a/c control head, ash tray, then un-bolt the entire center console and lift it up out of the way to get at the control module.

 

BTW, i wouldn't really mess with this stuff like dave was kinda leaning towards because you could get really hurt and we don't wanna be responsible.

 

Does the entire center console need to be removed (including armrest)? I already removed the radio, climate control, ask tray and shifter cover but the control module is still too difficult to reach especially with the plastic air duct above it. Any extra info is helpful.

 

For anyone else's reference, Yes, you do need to remove the entire center console to gain access to the air bag control module.
