Default Urgent Help Needed :S Clonk-sound

Hey!
I'll be forever greatful to whomever can help me with this problem quickly.
I'm going skiing (1600km) on wednesday morning and have just found out I'm taking my Audi A4 1997 1.8(Non-Turbo Europe Edition).

Problem is, I hear a squeaking sound from the passanger-side wheel area and, at atimes, a "clonk" from the same area when travelling at low speeds.

I've researched and heard that it could be something to do with the control arm. I'm a newbe with cars/audis/etc. so I need some help with this.

If the clonking has been going for a week or so will all the parts hold the 1600km trip intro the mountains? It's all paved roads so big holes shouldn't be a problem.

Help anyone?

PS. The clonk happens with going over speedbumps, or similar at low speeds and only seems to come from the passanger-side, althhough I also hear some odd noises from the rear of the car.

I'm going to try and get the car checked out tomorrow (last day before I leave) but I'd love it if you could provide some feedback so as to not get completely ripped off at the mechanic.

THANK YOU ALL!

sounds like control arms and possibly bushings.

I wouldn't want to be running too long like that tho. Thats just my opinion.

could be the inner brake pad is loose. try going at a low speed and lightly push the brakes when going over a bump.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

I have to say that these forums are an excellent source of audi-knowledge.

Anyhow, I went by my mechanic today and explained my problem, he took a drive around in the car, lifted it up and wiggled the wheel around for about 15 minutes checking everything and concluded that my LOWER arms were shot eventhough it seems that audi's upper arms usually go first.

Anyway, after checking it out he told me that it shouldn't be a problem, the noise will just get louder and more annoying, so I could pass by his shop when i got tired of listening to the screeching, clonking.

Thanks again everyone!
