Can I replace ABS control module by myself?
I am driving Audi A6-Quattro 1998. The ABS light is on because the ABS control module is failure (according to a mechanic).
I wonder if I can replace the abs control module by myself since it does not seem to be difficult. The only concern for me is whether the ABS light will go off after replace the ABS control module. Do I need to clear fault codes? I found the used part (same part number and still working) online at reasonable price and don't want to spend 150$ to have the mechanic to replace the part for me.
Please give me some suggestions.
Thank you

You will need a vag com to code the new control module. If the old control module won't communicate with the vag com you won't be able to see what the coding is in most cases. This means you won't know what to code the unit, you "MIGHT" be able to get a coding table from the dealer but i doubt it. A bentley manual will have a coding table in there and maybe someone will be kind enough to post it. So unless you have a vag com, you can't do it yourself no.
LOL $150 to replace it, try $300+.

I have a 2000 A6 Q and I changed the module myself. I'm a little handy, but by no means a mechanic. I took it off and sent it to ModuleMaster.com for repair. I got it back in 4 days with a 5 year unlimited mile warranty for about $120. The dealer wanted $859+tax installed with a 12 month/ 12k mile warranty. I think they even have instructions on their site. The car should do a system check every time you turn it on and clear the ABS codes. That's what mine did. The light never came back on after I installed the module and started the car. Good Luck.

You can deff change it yourself, i had the same problem and my module was bad. I removed the pump and module together (the pump is the part that the black brake lines are connected to) and it dumped all my brake fluid so i dont suggest you doing that, just take the round part of the module out, send it to modulemaster and you can even drive with the module itself out (just dont remove the pump) and have it rebuilt, then install it and the code will reset itself. There is no need to have a vag-com, just installing it, restarting the car and that should be it.
