I don't use the A/C a lot, but I've had a weird high pitch noise occur sparatically when shutting down the climate control. I've noticed it most when the car was at a stop and idling. It seems to be working fine, but the noise is definately disconcerting. The noise starts strong and fades away over a few seconds. Any ideas what it might be? I'm wondering if it might be related to a clutch thatengages the compressor.

 

That or your belt tensioner could be going out, how many miles on the car?

 

54k miles. I trying to tie down when it happens, but so far there's no repeatable pattern.

 

i have the same thing on my TT!
i only have 13K on it so it shouldn't be the tesioner.
The dealer thought he fixed it yesterdayby refilling the freon but its still there! stupid dealers, I shelled out 146 for freakin' FREON! AND THE NOISE IS STILL THERE! sorry about that lil' rant i had to get it out, lol.

Did you ever find out what's going on?
My car IS 5 years old, so i hope teh AC compressor isn't going, cuz those are like 400$ [:@]

 

Mine kinda whines when i turn it on... not off... and ive just figured im going to live with the sound..

WOW! 5 years old and 13k miles... props

 

I've got 112K on it now and haven't done anything about the whine so far. Climate Control still seems to work fine. It'll be interesting to see how bad it is this summer.
