A8L tiptronic automatic to manual 6-speed 01E
im converting my A8L to manual. just sharing some pics, advice and any hurdles I came across.... not step by steps.
any questions please ask
this will be slow but it is happening
THESE ARE IN NO ORDER I do apologize for that but limited time with computer access.
just thought the visual would help a lot of people out.... more then likely on other projects just having some of these components

steering wheel
this is kinda how you'd start
take off airbag by screws in back of wheel
then you're here. the black wire take off from this side because
it will look like you can disconnect from here(rotating piece) but you CANNOT smh...it looks like a disconnect but is not
one screws holds ligh signal module on remove....
comes free
WARNING if you take off rotating piece from signal module this ribbon will unravel
tiptronic cable lock... put key in and turn to 'on' position to remove

the two trans
CPS on 01e is above dowel pin.....
CPS on auto is below dowel pin
I rebuilt this awhile back. Had the locked 1 and 2 selector hub.
this is a way to pull the back off a 01e
01e length
auto length
driveline
above was a EUC, have to get one with a 4.11 ratio to match trans

trans mount
Template. I don't any blind punch screws
clutch
these are cheap on ebay
I have to get a custom button flywheel made
and buy some disc with audi's spline(tilton)
all that is still cheaper then what ive found for the price of the flywheel to fit the 8-bolt 4.2l 40v crank and a clutch.

You're welcome
What project are you working on?
PS
I have some more pics.... The biggest hurdle I think.... CPS in different places on the two transmissions. Soooooooo if you wanna keep motronic then... Well y'all know the rest.
Have to adjust the triggers because.........
CPS on 01e is above dowel pin.....
CPS on auto is below dowel pin

I'm still working on it
Ok finally got my lathe( lol lathes.... You know how when you hear a new word then all of a sudden you hear it often. Well I could not for the life of me find a big enough lathe for my custom flywheel at a good price. I was being cheap, then kept finding these things aren't cheap. So I kept upping my price still to no avail. Until last month found one on acceleratedbuysell.com. A 24N model monarch :-) 36" swing for a great price $1700 bought it and while up there also acquired a Rockland 19” for $350 smh and while buying tooling for them was sold a craftsman 6" for $40!! Lol yeah crazy, couldn't find one now I got too many.)
So now I can start back with this project. Well not exactly gotta convert to single phase or get 3 phase power. Surplus gov generator still run high so I'm thinking the former. But we'll see.
PS I figured a way to adjust the CPS correctly while learning about turning and milling. Use a dividing head. That will give me exact 360 increments.
Monarch 36.5" swing smh
Rockland 19"
my little craftsman 6"
