It could be a bad connection on the cable with the ODBII port in the car. If you haven't tried reseating that, I would try that next.

could be a problem with the radio wiring harness, OBDII port, or your cheap cable. a lot of people have reported problems trying to scan their car when they have an aftermarket radio installed. if you can hook up and get at least a partial scan (radio) then the software is working properly.

OP, you can scan/read/reset the OBD2 codes, the readiness codes, ABS and airbag modules, and more with the shareware version once it is working right.

VCDS and VCDS-Lite are both compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7. VAG-COM 409, which was released in 2004, well before Vista existed, is not.

VCDS-Lite is the replacement for the old VAG-COM versions 311 and 409, and it's compatible with all interfaces which worked with those old VAG-COM versions.

If VCDS-Lite is having problems, the first thing to do is [Options] -> [Test] and post the exact results.

Latency Test: Poor
I assume you are using some type of 3rd-party USB interface?

If it uses an FTDI chipset, install the latest drivers from ftdichip.com, and then crank down the latency timer to 2, as shown in this screenshot.

If your interface uses some other chipset, talk to your interface supplier.
