96 A4 steer rack and neutral safety switch
I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that a neutral safety switch is to keep the the car from turning over if it's in gear. If that's correct, I need that. Is it easy to install?
It helps to have it up on a rack but can be done on stands. It mounts to the side of trans but there is a support bracket in the way that needs to be removed first. You should make sure your linkage is adjusted properly first before replacing. This switch is also referred to as a trans. range switch, its socket has 8 pins and also serves to light gear indicator. New these cost from $270 to $300. Will take $100 plus shipping.Couldn't help but check your other posts and wanted to add to this thread on your suspension that you better make sure your ball joints are good before lowering. The originals all went bad on this year and cost from 130 to 150 each plus labor. They are pretty easy to put in but sometimes pain to remove.
