Neutral Safety Switch???

Neutral Safety Switch???
I have a 2001 A6 Tip/4.2l. Is there a neutral safety switch? My car won't start most of the time unless I jiggle (technical term) the shifter. It would seem like there is a switch or something near the shifter that is out of sorts. Can I get to this from above?

I think it would be the Multi-Function Switch and you reach it from the driver's side. The page that lists the part number is not working in VAG-CAT so I can't give it to you but the illustration shows it on the driver's side of the transmission.

Ok, heres some more, all the indicator lights at the dash work correctly and correctly display Park when this is happening, the tip shift works great as well. Does this rule out the multifunction switch? Is there another Nuetral Safety Switch? Also the Ignition Keu Intrlock is working properly. Does that adjustgment do anything for this symptom?

Solved it... There is an adjustment to the shifter linkage. Moved it towards the back of the car an eighth of an inch and no more problem. It's kind of a bitch to get to you have to remove the heat shield that protects it . and it is on the driver side. Thanks to Auditech79 for his input. None of my switches were malfunctioning it was just an adjustment.
