Default Symphony sound fades in and out?

Guys, this is my first post so apologies in advance if its badly written etc. I'll learn! I'm running an S4 2004 model with the stock Symphony stereo (inc the in-dash CD changer), if I turn the CD volume over 16 then the sound starts to fade in and out - not completely it just gets slighly quieter for a moment, really irritating. I've tried fiddling about with GALA and the head unit has been changed once under warranty but its no better.

I used to have a TT with the Bose system - that was cool. I know the Symphony isnt all that great as a stereo, but hey most of the time I'd rather listen to that great V8 anyway...

Can anyone help? Is it just that the head unit cannot really cope with higher volumes (it doesnt distort though which is what I'd expect).

Thanks to anyone who replies.

Past 16?? Holy jeeze. I'm pretty sure I've never had mine above 12.. Anyway, it's is most likely related to this since you own an 04: http://dejong947.com/audi/tsb/audi.tb.91-04-17.pdf

my symphony does this at low volumes, once past maybe 7-8, it will stop. Never had it happen up high. What is the deal with the SVC, I read a little about it, but didn't understand how to activate it. does the Audiopilot have to be disconnected for this to be enabled?

SVC isn't the issue, and no.. it can be enabled without having the audiopilot disconnected. The TSB soln is to disconnect the audiopilot to correct the error, and then simply re-enable the SVC is you still want the capability. Try going here, I posted the same problem not long ago..

It's not that the amp is going out, unless you have a 1 off case. The 2004 has more than 1 mic to handle the volume inside and outside the cabin to adjust the volume in the speakers. When it's hot out your internal microphone has problems which affects the way it captures/reads/sends data to the amp inside the car. With the case of the OP, the volume is too high in the cabin so it tries to correct this hence the fluctuation.

Audi's TSB is to disable the audiopilot (i'm assuming this controls the internal mic's communication to the amp) to correct the problem. The CSV doesn't really have anything to do with this problem, but I guess when they disable the audiopilot the CSV is turned off by default, which is why they re-enable it.

The other solution is to replace your bose amp with a newer model since the new ones have corrected the problem through new firmware updates.. hope this clarifies
