Default 1988 Audi 90 cold start injector not working

I am currently working on a problem with a 1988 Audi 90, 4 cylinder, not Quattro.

The cold start injector never receives a signal, so cold starting is a problem, but it still starts after much cranking. After testing the injector (works great), I have presently connected the cold start injector directly to the "crank" signal, active every time the ignition is turned to start (crank). This fixed the cold start problem beautifully, but, as expected, results in flooding when trying to start a warm/hot engine as the cold start injector is not needed/wanted when starting hot/warm.

Other than putting in a manual switch for the cold start injector, a last resort solution, what suggestions does anyone have for a proper fix? What sensors are involved in creating a permissive for the cold start injector? Additionally, where are these sensors - I do not have a manual for this vehicle?

Thanks in advance for your collective assistance.

My books are only for 5 cyl models, but the graph for the cold start injector, and the test procedure is to disconnect from the injector, attach a test lamp to the connector, and crank for 10 seconds, with the center distributor lead detached and grounded. It should light for approximately 2 seconds at temp of 30C-86F. You should not test over 30C.

if it does not light, you should check the thermotime switch, either in the bottom of the radiator, or at the thermostat housing, not sure. I think in one of my older cars it was in the radiator, near the fan thermo switch.

Cheers,

George

I don't know to whom that was directed. If it was Wim, true, he should post here or there, not both.

Regardless, the offer still stands.

And the discrepancy of 80F max temp, and 5 minutes running the motor do not jibe.

Ah, well,

Cheers,

George
