89 Audi 80 Quattro
I just baught this car for 600 bucks > i have put about 3000 miles on it and so far and it has been running good. But i was wondering if anyone new about the gearing at all. It seems that 1st 2nd and 3rd gears seem slow for getting up top speed buut then 4 and 5 are speed gears. Does this seem right?? Also any hints on what I can do performance wise to make the car faster. I am not looking to spend to much on it right now but plan to do some things to it in the future. If anyone else has a car simaler with a pic I would like to see it.
Thanks Cory

RE: 89 Audi 80 Quattro
Over all, the Audi 80Q isnt the fastest thing in the world, but for me in comparing gear ratios i think its the opposite for me. 1st through 3rd (assuming you are maxing out the power band) But anyways on to performance parts, myself owning the 80Q for a year have also been wanting to find some performance parts, the problem is though there really isnt any. There are cat back exhausts, Stebro makes a nice one http://www.stebro.net/aq90.htm , and for the intake a K&N air filter is only 40 through Advance Auto. ECU upgrade is also available but be prepaired to throw down 350-400 for a 10 hp increase. Also body kits around a decent one here http://moldynamics.com/store/merchan...ode=Audi_80_90
but again not cheap. Bottom line, the parts are there, but they arent cheap, I guess it all ddepends on how much you want to spend. If you want some ideas i would go to cardomain.com and check out the audi 80/90 page. People do some pretty cool stuff to their cars.

Today there isn't much in terms of performance for the 2.3L motor. I am running a Blau Sport cam and K&N filter and it does give me some noticeable performance once I wind it up past 2500RPM.

As far as I heard Modified ECU alone doesn’t really give you any increased performance with the naturally aspirated 10V unless you are heavily modifying intake, compression, injectors, cams, etc.
A few years back European Car did an article on a heavily modified 100 with a 2.3 motor, it was putting out about 165HP about what a stock 2.3L 20V does.

This information was posted on their website about the cam,
"Approximately 10% to 15% horsepower gain and 25% torque gain can be expected depending on your Audi application. "
seems like a pretty good deal just wanted to know if the numbers where any where near what they claim.

I have not verified the numbers on a dyno by I definitely feel an improvement. I have a G-tech Pro but unfortunately I got it after I installed the cam so I cannot do a before and after comparison. I also need to find a place to weigh my car. I don't like to go by GVRW numbers.
