Transmissins will shift depending on how far you have the acceleator depressed. You have sequential valves in there that your foot is raising the shift points of.

Just try lifting your foot a little, see if it shifts into 3 or 4 at abou 40 mph , hell, shove it to the floor and see if it ever gets out of second, might pass 70 before it does.

Damned tough and pulling motors they put in these things. Find a better. Merc and Beemers won't do it

Cheers,

George

mine shifts between 3 and 4 at 36MPH. Cruising in the city.
but then ZERO power on acceleration from my car.
but when I go onto the highway I switch into 3rd and let the car get enough speed and then switch back into D. usually at 50-60MPH some times less of the traffic.

Idon't know if this is pertinent on the 4 speed auto, but on the older 3 speeds you must have the throttle cable adjusted properly, else your shift points will be too high and hydraulic pressure too high at idle.

Perhaps your cable has slipped or stretched.

Hey, at first you say your 3-4 shift is too high, later you say NO 4th. Which is it?

Cheers,

George

my unkle had 1989 audi 80 auto 1.8L. I had to play with the cable to get it right. it took couple of tries to get it right.
PS I checked again and it switches between 3 to 4 at 34 MPH (lowest I got) RPM goes from 2000 to like 1300. and then car has ZERO throtle response in the first 1/3 of accelerator way.

Kakarot,

Something doesn't sound right with your car. You press the pedal 1/3, you should downshift, get a kick in the ***. You are raising the pressure in the system by doing that, and giving more gas. Has to shift and pull harder if it is correctly adjusted.

Cheers,

George

I might exaugerated 1/4 of the way. and yes if I go deaper it downshifts into 3rd or if I WOT it downshifts into 2nd or even 1st.
day before yesterday, I was driving to the library to voluntear, some punk on integra ,I think it was, tried to get away from me, he was woting his car while I drove between 1/2 and 2/3 of pedal press. also punk had turbo, I could hear the pshshshshshs when he was shifting. It was cool I didn't even break a sweat. it was 3 blocks long, and first he whent normal, but from start he give it a shot, I tailed him not exiding 2 car length between us, tranny never shifted into 3rd. also he got away from me when I had to turn into perpendicular street.
