Default Coupe Quattro brake warning light.. HELP!

1989 Audi coupe quattro 10v

Please help - any advice very welcome!

The break bulb warning light (?) on the computer displays when I use the break pedal.

When I first start the car, it displays 'OK' if i just tap the pedal, if i press the pedal for any longer i get the warning. Turning on the main lights sets off the warning too.

After driving for 20mins (approx) the warning starts displaying of its own accord until it finaly settles down and stays on!

All bulbs work around the car. Both rear bulb holders have been replaced, I had this problem before the holders were replaced.

Any ideas???

On some bulb warning systems you have to use the same bulb or even a specific manufacturer. The computer measures the resistance and compares it, a slight difference will trigger the warning light. Check to make sure that the bulbs on the left and right sides are identical. Changing to brighter bulbs can have the same effect. If this doesn’t help then I would check the socket and connector for oxidation.

Thanks for the reply. My local garage seems to have tracked down the problem and fixed it.

I will find out what the problem was for future reference.
