Shuts down while on freeway

Shuts down while on freeway
My 92 Audi 100 CS randomly shuts down on the freeway. The warning lights begin to flicker and the ignition system shuts off. This happens after driving for atleast an hour or so. After pulling over and turning the ignition off, the car turns back on after sitting for a couple minutes. It's done this once or twice over the years but today it did it three times during a four hour trip. Anyone have any ideas of how to fix this problem. It has just been serviced and there were no obvious trouble codes.[:@]

RE: Shuts down while on freeway
That’s an easy one, had a very similar problem on 91 100Q. It will only get worse, the intervals will get longer and fail more often. In my case it was the hall sensor in the distributor, I bet it is the same problem with your Audi. You night be able to read some codes off of the ECU, provided the shutdown interval is long enough to crank the engine over for a few seconds.
In any case let us know what the problem turns out to be.

RE: Shuts down while on freeway
My 94 100CS Quattro is now doing this. It has shutdown unexpectely three times on the freeway (over 1+ years). Each time on a warm day after about 2 hours of freeway driving. Did you ever figure out what caused yours to shutdown?
