Default Temperature Guage

The light on my guages flashes for the first 5 mins of my car running. Its the Upper left light and its looks at if its flashing the temperature indicator. It usually only flashes when the steering wheel is turning and I've checked for coolent and its full, any ideas? thanks! I've got a 94' Audi 90

strange it should only do it when turning the steering wheel are you sure its the temp gauge and not the power steering fluid just a thought also a code would be there for the stat P0116

Yea its certainly not the power steering, I've checked that level everytime. Just the other day its did it once while the wheel was straight, but it hasn't done it since and still contiunes to everytime the wheels is turned. Is it possible there are some electronics in the wheel that might effect it in some way? Thanks!

Where is the thermostat located? Is it relatively easy to get to?
Thanks

Check the wires, the harnesses for broken wires or shorts, or the coolant level sender
