2002/2003 Audi Allroad 2.7T - Good catch or worst nightmare
Hello @ all,
Currently I own a 2004 Volkswagen Passat Wagon 1.8T GLS and I'm thinking about replacing that car with an 2002 or 2003 Audi Allroad 2.7T.
Back in Germany (I'm here in the U.S. since 11/2004) I drove an Audi A6 Avant (Wagon) 2.5 V6 TDi (the C5 Model) and I loved that car.
I was thinking about taking that car with me to the U.S. but I guess getting the spare parts for the 2.5 V6 TDi engine here in the U.S. might be tricky and expensive. With a heavy heart I sold the car in Germany.
Here in the U.S. I bought a (at that time) new 2004 VW Passat Wagon and it is a good car as well ... but it really can't replace an Audi A6..
Recently I found some really interesting deals (2002/2003 Audi Allroad 2.7T Models between 15500 USD to 19000 USD) at a dealer in Dublin, CA (http://acacars.com). The milage of that cars were between 50000 and 80000 miles.
1. Are these prices to good to be true or do you think there must be a catch?
2. Are there any known issues (weak points) on 2002 / 2003 Audi Allroads where I should be aware of?
3. What are the actual costs for the routine service on that car?
4. Does the 2002/2003 Audi Allroad also have service intervals like the Volkwagen Passat 1.8T (every 5000 miles oil change/ every 10000 service)
5. Should I stay with my Volkwagen Passat instead of thinking replacing it with an Audi Allroad?
I would really appreciate to get your opinions and tips
Regards
Niels.

Depends on what you wanna do. I got a 02 with 50k and 2 year warrenty and shipped 5 states away for 22 after all said and done. Price sounds about right. Go with the lower mileage and make sure timing belts are done. I have had no problems and love my 02. I even took her offroading and she did great! fun cars to have. Regular maintnence equals car lasting long time!
Are you doing the service by yourself or do you go to an (Audi) dealership to get the service done?
What I actually don't like on my Volkswagen are the 5000 miles service intervals - maybe I'm just spoiled by the service intervals in Germany (if you have "long life service" you have service intervals up to 21000 miles - if you don't have "long life service" the normal service interval is every 9300 miles). Are there any websites where I can find more about the service intervals and approx. costs?
What about the gas mileage on the 2.7T engine from the Audi?I'm thinking about taking the car back to Gemany as well when I have to go back because an used 2002/2003Audi Allorad in Germany is much more expensive than here. The gas consumption and the the smog classification in Germany (the smog classification and the cubiccapacity ofcars havebig impacts on the annual tax on motor vehicles) can make the upkeep of such big cars very expensive. The Goverment of Germany/European Unionis very picky. They don't like big engines with high mileages and high CO2 emissions.
For example the Audi Allroad 2.7T (information I found on a german webpage):
gas consumption Liter/100km:
city/highway combinated: 13.0L
city only: 19L
highway only: 9.8L
co2 emission g/km: 319
For example the VW Passat 1.8T (information I found on a german webpage):
gas consumption Liter/100km:
city/highway combinatd: 9.6L
highway only: 7.2L
co2 emission g/km: 230
Ihave tocheck how much impact these numbers have on the motor vehicle tax in Germany. And the gas prices in Germany are way higher than here (about 6.80USD/Gallon premium gasoline).

I take it to dealership to get oil changes and stuff. I still have powertrain warrenty from a company and all they have done is camshaft seal.
I get about 23 average MPG.
I get about 23 average MPG.
service at audi dealer (the prices might be wrong by 50% - my memory is a bit loose):
oil change $99 .
brake fluid: every 2 yr: $129
40k miles: major oil change, spark plug, checkup: $499.
You can go to audi dealer - they will have a service plan & price.
Why not buy a lower mileage car if you can pay more?

most of that stuff you can do on your own. Just takes time and patience!
I have neither so i pay for my oil changes. only 60 bucks at cincy audi
