Default Used '02 Allroad: dream or nightmare?

Looking at an '02 Allroad. Has around 75,000 miles and looks clean. Priced around $8500. Car is a 2 owner vehicle and has the following service replacement/repair receipts over the past 2 years:

Cam tensioner seal, timing belt, water pump, serp belt, J-tooth belt?, both by-pass valves, thermostat, rib belt

Has had synthetic oil changes with no engine leaks and previous owner says that the air suspension has no leaks.

So, after studying the forum and the stickies and I looking at a lemon or something that is pretty much ready to go other than a suspension fail in the future or should I be worried about future engine/turbo issues with all of the work that has been done in the last two years? Thanks for your replies!

If the engine has received the necessary oil changes, there are few worries with respect to the powerplant. Turbo's do go, but it's the exception, not the rule. If all the air suspension components are original, it's a safe bet you'll have to do either a air pump and/or bags pretty soon. Arnott industries provides aftermarket replacement pumps and bags and are pretty much the way every "in the know" Allroad owner goes. No one with any sense uses Audi bags as the Arnott's have a lifetime warranty. Your TIP is a crap shoot. Well known to have both reverse issues and torque converter issues. If you don't mind a manual, buy a 6 speed car to avoid the trans issues all together.

I just bought an 03 allroad and I might be puttin in torque converter at 75000 miles. Just buy a suburu outback unless youre either a good mechanic or have a good cash flow. Im starting to get the idea these things are a nightmare.

It is a love hate relationship. For every positive memory I have of this car, I have a negative one with repairs. Don't buy one if you don't already own a house, you'll never be able to save up for a down payment on property driving this car

Default allroad is love affair

bought my 2002 allroad 2.7t tiptronic ~june 2009 with ~55k miles. had APR 93 tune done asap and turbos went just before ~60k

previous owner did not change oil as i replaced all seals and have changed with best synthetic every 5k since then

air compressor was on its last leg, replaced with one from arnott industries in florida. way cheaper than stealership and specialize in stock air suspension systems for all makes.

replaced front air bags after that, replaced rear air bags and all four shocks with bilstein from arnott. august 2010. approx 75K miles

car would sink down overnight and eventually while driving, replacement of air bags was needed. arnott bags come with lifetime warranty and i have been satisfied ever since, did 4-wheel alignment after shock replacement because i misaligned wheels taking it apart.

cats were clogged from previous turbo failure and reg driving, replaced with VAST piggies in ~Jan-2011. made considerable difference, much better.

spring 2011 blinkers started acting up, replaced triangle emergency flasher switch which controls blinkers for ~$60 and 10minutes.

have various small parts, silicone throttle body boot, 710n diverter valves, new breather/spider system, stock replacement K&N filter, new coil packs and bosch tri spark plugs. reg maintenance like rotors pads etc.

just recently my torque converter has been acting up and im surprised this did not happen sooner with my various stage1 mods. im going to stay off the highway until michigan winter has passed and replace in spring.

i constantly receive compliments from friends and coworkers on how nice my car is despite the wear and tear on the exterior, i have a few dents and scratches. everyone loves the interior and think it is super fancy, heated front and rear seats, windows and everything still work fine at 89k. i'm always the first one called for road trips or anything out of the norm because the allroad is comfy and my one buddy says it is like "floating on a cloud" when im cruising

if you want it for the luxury get the 4.2 v8 and replace the suspension, reg maintenance. if you want the tuner get the 2.7t and the sky($$$) is the limit.
i have a local shop do anything i cant as the stealership likes your $$$.

i plan on keeping my allroad forever, or atleast until audi offers it again in the US like they do in europe. this will be my future dad mobile.
