Dead battery .....again
Hi folks, newer owner here. In Jan of this year (very cold) my battery died. Original (I believe) '01 with about 90K miles on it. Took the battery out of the car as it died inside my garage and wouldn't take a charge or a jump, so dead that I couldn't even get enough power to the stereo to retrieve a CD. NTB tested the old battery and said that yes indeed it was bad and I needed a new one.
Another aside here, the tech brought out a battery after taking my old one into the back and started to ring it up. I pointed out that the battery was the wrong size and that I needed a different one. He insisted that this one was correct because the computer told him so. I told him to go back and retrieve my old battery from the back and compare them, sure enough the one he had brought out was 6" too short. Now he is completely confused, without the computer to tell him the part needed he doesn't know what to do. Finally a senior tech wanders by and tells him what kind to get. He brings it out and rings it up, the price is 140 bucks, double what the one in the computer had been and had been quoted to me over the phone. Idiots all round.
Well this brings me to the current problem. I drove the car Friday and everything was perfect. I went out to start it this morning (Sunday) about noon (warm weather now) and the same symptoms as before: wub wub wub click click click. I put the charger on it and again nothing, just dead. I've taken the battery out and will be taking it back to NTB Monday. Assuming the battery has gone bad is it likely that it was just a lemon battery or do I have some kind of charging system problem. It's not like it faded over time. Just perfect to dead bam.
Any thoughts?

Side note also. Wifes Phaeton is at the dealership getting two new batteries (warranty job) They have had it for over two weeks now so I'm driving her loaner, a '09 Tiguan. I kind of like the snortyness of the 2.0T engine but the whole car feels really cheap. I suspect we're a bit spoiled by our usual rides. Sigh, she has a Phaeton now what will we have to get next?
