Default Gear ratios: Mileage 6 Spd Manual or Tip?

I am looking to purchase a used Allroad... and I want to know more about the gear ratios... I owned a VW Passat 4Motion with the Tip.. and it was only okay in the fun department, plus it ate a lot of gas.

I would like the 6 speed.. but I can't find any comparative data on fuel mileage, as well as that subjective feeling...

Anyone care to chime in? Also how rare is the 6 spd? There is one at the local used car dealer...but I am not sure if its the nicest example...

Thanks.

According to www.parkers.co.uk (the leading 'public' car price guide here in the UK rather than trade guide): -

Engine & Trim CC/Cyl BHP MPH 0-60 MPG IG
2.7 T quattro 5d 2671 / 6 246 147 7.2 21 17
2.7 T quattro 5d Tip Auto 2671 / 6 246 145 7.5 21 17
4.2 V8 quattro 5d Tip Auto 4163 / 8 295 149 7.0 13 19
2.5 TDI quattro 5d 2496 / 6 177 129 9.2 31 15
2.5 TDI quattro 5d Tip Auto 2496 / 6 177 127 9.3 29 15

If the 'table' above looks crap here's an image of the data

(Hope this works)
