Keyless entry distance.

Keyless entry distance.
2001 Allroad, I need to literally almost touch the car while pressing the fob to get it it unlock. The batteries are new and I once upon a time read somewhere that there is a fix for this by extending out an antenna wire in one of the wheel wells, anyone heard of this or have a solution?
While on that subject, is there a way to install remote start on this car?
Cheers

Sorry. This comment does not answer your question.
I have similar issues with my car. At times my car will unlock at about 30'. This is pretty much the maximum distance I've been able to get. Most of the time I need to be within 10' to get it to unlock.
I've heard that remote start is possible if you go with a total aftermarket alarm system. AFAIK it is one of those jobs that needs to be done by a shop. While it is probably possible as a DIY I seem to think that the pitfalls and frustrations are many.
