Default New allroad owner with a whole pile of questions.

We've had it about a week, and it's been absolutly fantastic, as you all know, so I'll skip that. It's a green/ green '05 2.7T Tip with every option except the DVD navigation.

The car doesn't have an owners manual, and while I'm planning on buying one soon (along with OEM rubber floor mats), I'd like to know what the two HVAC buttons that are above and below the ECON button are for. They're the somewhat swooshy arrows, and the lower one has an A on it. I'm assuming they're for the inside/ outside air function, but not sure.

Also, I read somewhere, I think, that if you hold the unlock button on the key down, the windows will roll down, and if you hold the lock button, the windows will roll up. I haven't gotten it to do this... will I ever?

When do the red fog lights in the back come on? I pulled the head light **** out to the second setting, but they didn't come on. I haven't checked for a fuse yet, though.

Lastly, how do I lock the suspension? Engine on, both buttons, or key on engine off, both buttons...? Then what?

Reliability... Upon mentioning it to friends, their first reaction is along the lines of, "hope you're familiar with a scan tool and your multimeter." I know Audis in the '80's had a bad rep for electrical problems, but I'm having a hard time believing that a modern, 21st century car would have such issues. Any truth to the old wives tales?

Reliability II... The turbos. Honestly, these things scare the **** outta me. I love turbos, but all I read makes it sound like I'm driving two time bombs around. The car is completely stock and will stay that way, just turned 60K miles, has been very well maintained, I just did an oil change and put Castrol GTX in it, and we drive it respectfully as we understand the proper care and feeding of turbos. Basically, that having been said, should I expect to replace the turbos by 100K? 125K? 150K? I know there's many variables, but in general, when do people start looking at a pair of K04's?

Reliability III... The airbags. Very cool, gimmicky suspension. I like it and see the functionality. However, upon reading that the main failure is wear on the boot where it folds due to dirt getting in there, would it make sense to get the gators that the Tourag has?

Reliability IV... Warranty. Right now, the car came with a three month, 3K mile warranty from the used car lot with the option to extend down the road. I'm not sure of the terms or price, but given that the few things that seem to fail are high dollar items, would it be worth it? If not through them, then through who? I've never dealt with any warranty stuff since this is the newest car I've ever owned.

Thanks for any and all answers. I know the first couple could be found if I just RTFM, but I don't have the M... yet.

We do absolutly LOVE the car, and it's our first Audi. I'm so impressed by it, I'm even considering replacing my '94 Acura Legend 6MT coupe with a TT or older S4. That's saying a lot, since I've only owned Hondas and Toyotas since I was 16.

Suspension lock is car on both buttons until they both light up
Window down/up is key in the door and turn and hold.I think you can use the VagCom to do it buy remote
Headlight switch outand turn position 1 is front 2 is front and rear
Reliability for turbos is a gamble.Use the right spec oil like German Castrol.
As far as extended warranty go here look for Bruce M.I have not delt with him but he is the allroad extended warranty guru that everybody raves about http://forums.audiworld.com/allroad
I think by 05 alot of the bugs are worked out.My 04 has 102k in less than 3 years and no problems granted V8's seem to have less. It's spent most of it's life in the lowest setting.I don't know if that matters

Thanks for the reply! Another question regarding the suspension that I forgot- what happens if the car is lifted without it being locked? Just wait for it to pump itself back up?

I have some friends stationed at Spangdahlem AB in German, but I don't think they'd ship me oil. Is there anything available in the US equivalent of the German Castrol? The nearest Audi dealer is about 40 miles away and I can't see driving that far just for oil.

Any thoughts on those HVAC buttons?

You should use the "jack mode" before they lift your car. Make sure to use the one with ramp. (Not the one that lift your car by lifting the underbody pillar. I dont always use the jack mode but the jack mode gives you peace of mind. The manual recommends you to use jack mode(this includes changing flat tires). Jack modes activates when you press two buttons and hold it till both light up.

The oil you should looking for is 0W-30(5w-30 if you cant find it) German Castrol Syntec Full synthetic. 5w-40 Mobil1 also works. Just get the oil that meets VW 502.00 standards. You can buy them at any local autozone. I think they cost $6.50ish per 1 quart. Allroad can hold up to 6.5 quarts of oil so it's the best to get 7 or 8 quarts.

About the HVAC, I'll post it soon.

If you want to make your remote open/close windows, you need a tool called VAG-COM. KEY-USB($249) is sufficient, no need to get HEX-CAN-USB($349). You can buy VAG-COM from www.ross-tech.com but if you dont want to spend all that money, you can simply go to this website and find a person who'd do it for you.

Thanks for the tip on the Castrol. I did some searching online and found some good info about the oil: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...&Number=718643 Also good info on the vagcom locator. I emailed a few in my area and we shall see what happens.

HVAC top is air circulation preventing outside stench from entering. The one with the "A" does automatically.Tell your freinds in Germany to send you factory allroad trailer hitch setups and you'll have more freinds here.
